Is investing in the stock market gambling?
By Randell Tiongson on June 29th, 2011It is a common notion that investing in the stock market is gambling. For some Christians, they have shied away from the stock market because they believe it is actually a form of gambling.
As a believer, I believe otherwise. While there is a lot of risk associated with investing in the stock market, it is far from gambling. The next question, is investing in the stock market ‘unbiblical’ ?
Let’s hear it from Pastor John MacArthur from www.gty.org —
Thank you for the insight. Indeed, the keyword there is “manageable”. Aside from foolish spending, being involved in gambling can be enslaving. At the end of the day, even if we won the game, we remained unsatisfied and start going after it again…and again. I still have to learn more on “manageable risk” and that is where you come in the picture. Cheers!
Insightful. Prudence is biblical, and so is investing, say, to hone your talents, for example, in order to be a vessel of God’s blessing to others; ultimately to draw all people back to God through Christ. Amen. Let us just be careful not to be overly dependent, or obsessed with “raking it in” or “paying yourself first”. Dependency on job, business, investing or OR for that matter dependency on anything else apart from God, is extremely risky. Thanks, Randell.
Thanks for the kind words Laurence and Joseph. God bless you both.
